The Chateau near Bordeaux - LOCATION


The nearest village is Cherveux which is two miles away and has a moated Chateau and fortified walls, its listed as one of the most historical buildings and tours will take you through the 12th century until today. The small village has shops, restaurants for convenience.

A drive of 20 minutes will take you to a ruined castle called Coudray Salbart, it sits on a hill and has a number of towers around itself, every so often a medieval show is presented with mock fighting battles of the past, plenty of food and drink is available at this event well worth a visit.

NIORT is a 30 minute drive by car, originally it was a Gallo-Roman town in the 16th and the 17th centuries. Two huge towers remain of this huge building but there are several fine French Renaissance buildings like the town hall and the church. Fine restaurants serve traditional French cuisine, a good range of shops, bars and cafes.

This town has an ancient Abbey church going back the very early age of the fifth century, and a museum of the military and an old square. Supermarkets are nearby and also one or two very popular restaurants. A tourist information centre provides guides and walks to famous landmarks.
